Food security comprises several different components, including food access, distribution of food, the stability of the food supply, and the use of food. Food insecurity is part of a continuum that includes hunger (food deprivation), malnutrition (deficiencies, imbalances, or excesses of nutrients), and famine. Local Food Hub has two arms: a distribution warehouse in Ivy, Virginia; the second, an educational farm in Scottsville, Virginia. The farm is certified organic with two farm managers, three apprentices and this summer, interns from Charlottesville High School who helped out at the farm three days a week. Emily explained that "many of them did not like it at first, but they get a lot out of being out on the land and seeing where their food comes from."
