NEWS
Eat Well Guided Tour of America Starts Thursday!
Sustainable Table is taking the scenic (and delicious!) route to Farm Aid’s September 9th “Homegrown” Festival at Randall’s Island in New York City. Check out our press release and our most recent update.
We’re just getting ready to embark on our Eat Well Guided Tour of America, and we have so many great events on the agenda, we are really excited to get "on the road again!" In case you’ve missed our earlier notes on the tour, we kick off from King’s Road Park in West Hollywood on August 2nd, so join us online to track our progress, find recipes, videos, and podcasts featuring interviews with some of the nation’s top foodies!
SPECIAL FEATURES
The Eat Well Guided Tour on the Web
We’re launching a whole new mini-site for the road trip tomorrow where you can track our progress as we cross the country to celebrate the sustainable food movement and find some of the country’s best pies. The site will feature interactive mapping, frequent blog posts, videos, audio podcasts and as many recipes as we can get our sustainable food-loving hands on! We’ll continue to blog the food news at The Daily Table, so check in on us there, too.
New Web Features
We’re now serving up our sustainable food content across a number of media platforms! Our first video interview with Jonathan White of Bobolink Dairy, went up in May, and we we recently posted an interview with John Petersen, aka Farmer John. Be on the look out for more video content from the road!
We’ve also started recording audio podcasts. Don’t have time to read the food news? Subscribe to our podcasts and give us a listen on your way to the farmers market!
And while you check out the new road trip site, make sure to click on our interactive mapping feature! We can’t physically take you on the road with us, but we’ll serve you up a virtual, local experience that’ll make you feel like you’re there!
Pie Articles
In honor of "Pie Across America" (the road trip’s unofficial theme), we’ve written a number of new feature articles on one of the country’s favorite foods. Check out our Histories of Pie and Pizza Pie, How to Bake a Nutritious Pie, How to Render Your Own Lard, and Fun Facts about Pie. We’ve also posted a few pie recipes, just to get us started...
ACTIONS
Hold the Hormones Update
Back in June, Starbucks very quietly increased their national supplies of rBGH-free fluid dairy to 51%. It looks like the Hold the Hormones Campaign really worked!
A spokesman for the java giant called our founder/director, Diane Hatz, to let her know personally about the increase and to renew their promise to up that percentage to 100%. (Read Diane’s blog post here). Of course, this move doesn’t just affect Starbucks aficionados—there have been major changes this year in the dairy industry’s use of the artificial hormone, and because Starbucks uses so much dairy, it may be safe to say that their changes have caused a ripple in the milkpail!
EWG Search Boxes
NEW Feature--add the Eat Well Guide to your web site. Host the Eat Well Guide Search Box on your own website, blog, or social networking page and show your support of local and sustainable food (and help your visitors support local farmers!). Click here and follow the easy instructions to download the widget.
Internship Opportunities
Eat Well Guide Internship/Externship - Telecommute from Any College Campus in the United States or Canada
Sustainable Table is seeking college interns/externs throughout the United States and Canada who are interested in food issues and would like to increase their research and marketing skills by helping expand the Eat Well Guide, an online directory of sustainable food sources. While most experiences of the intern/externship will revolve around updating and promoting the Guide, this is a remarkable opportunity for interns with a passion for food and health to learn about new technology and participate in a creative marketing project. We would also gladly accept volunteers. Find out more...
COMING SOON
We’ve got some great stuff happening in the Fall, not the least of which is the Farm Aid concert (and our pre-concert event in Red Hook, New York—check back for more info) and the launch of the Eat Well Guide "road trip" feature. Think Eat Well Guide meets Mapquest. Conscientious eaters will be able to map out routes with sustainable food outlets from start point to destination. Just remember to send us a postcard when you take off on your own Eat Well Guided Tour!
